22:16 – That’s deep Al.

Emotions for 2nd half of episode

I think this was a great episode. It was one large flashback that helped reiterate the Elric brothers’ situation and introduce a few more characters and how they met they are related to the brothers. This was a pretty sad episode with the death of their mother. I think what made it so sad was the viewers already knew she died and their attempt to bring her back was a failure that seeing them as little boys and being completely blindsided by the events and trying to fix everything just made it a lot sadder. I think with the introduction of Mustang we can expect to find out about state Alchemists and how the brothers are doing presently. I am enjoying this series a lot so far so I hope you consider watching it if you haven’t already, remember there is a link to the episode at the top.

Closing thoughts:

Overall, I think this was a great second episode, it began answering some questions while providing more questions at the same time making me want to keep watching. So if I remember correctly the lady next to the man who ate Cornello was Lust but when she was shown at the end looking at the “new” Cornello she called it Envy. ¬†I would like to know who these people¬†¬†are and what they are up to. I’m assuming Rose will end up following Al and Edward or at least leaving that town soon. I think Al and Ed had some great teamwork and I like how you can easily tell that they’re good brothers and friends to each other and help each other grow as people… or suits of armor in Al’s case. I am definitely looking forward to the upcoming episodes.

Fullmetal Alchemist Commentary review – episode 1

5:36 – Man, that’s a religious town.

6:38 – I have a feeling Cornello is a scam or some sort of conman.

7:23 – That’s some sweet alchemy.

Closing thoughts:

So the first episode was really good in my opinion, it got right into telling you how things work and who is who. I think it has left a lot of room to move and develop into a great anime and you should definitely check it out. Remember if you would like to see exactly what I was commenting on or just want to see the episode yourself you can follow the link at the top to watch it on a free site( http://www.animefreak.tv/ ).

Thank you and please don’t hesitate to leave your thoughts on how this first commentary review went and if you think an adjustment should be made.

Review of Another – Complete series

(pictures at bottom contain graphic images and the death of main characters )

Another is a horror anime and for good reason. Many of the episodes left me sitting at my desk with only the light from the computer screen to illuminate my room and comfort me from my thoughts about what could be behind me. The story starts in the year 1998 in the town of Yomiyama in class 3-3; this is the same class where a girl named Misaki died suddenly 26 years ago.

The town of Yomiyama

Another¬† had a great story line with lots of ¬†interesting twists and turns that kept me interested the whole way through. I loved how it portrayed Sakakibara’s thought process with the information available to him and his suspicions of class 3-3; by portraying what he was thinking the show was able to make me¬†conclude one thing about someone and then later realize something that caused me to reconsider at the same time as him which allowed you to really get engrossed in the story.

This show had tons of action throughout the entirety of the series. I must say though that the action increased exponentially in the last five episodes which kept me interested but also left me feeling a little taxed after each episode from everything happening. The action in Another is a bit different from what I would usually consider action. This action was more from the main group of characters working through the mystery of who the extra person was.  Most of the action involved the deaths of the students or their loved ones which ties into the violence of the show.

Another is not an anime for anybody that faints at the sight of blood because the blood looks extremely realistic and it’s obvious the animators took every opportunity to show ¬†just how gruesome and bloody the deaths are. ¬†I loved how each death is expertly shown and the moments leading up to it foreshadow the character’s death in such a way that I started getting chills down my back from suspension and then when the suspense was at its climax and they finally died I was both horrified from seeing it but also in awe at how exquisitely it was executed. ¬†The final two episodes are by far the most gruesome and horrifying episodes of the entire series. These two episodes take place in the hotel he class is staying at for the class trip and is basically a blood bath as the class attempts to hunt down and kill the student they believe is the “extra person” in the class. There are some students who are simply killing everybody as most of them are now not thinking clearly and seem to be in some sort of daze as they run around looking for the “extra person.”

Throughout the series there is lots of background music to help portray the feelings of everybody and what’s happening or about to happen. I absolutely loved the background music because I felt like it was written by the characters themselves to show exactly how they felt; the music helped set the mood and know when something horrible was happening when my hands were covering my eyes from the graphic and disturbing scenes at times.

The other music was from the opening and closing scenes which were amazing. The opening music fit the opening scene flawlessly as it reinforced the eerie and disturbing images and story that the opening scene depicted. The scenes themselves depict lots of dolls that will move on their own and are creepy in that they look life-like and each one tells a different depressing story. The scenes are dark ominous compared to the closing scene which is the main characters in a room together relaxing and looking overall happy. Mei is the only one not in the room as she is out on the balcony facing away from everybody before gently fading away to show the scenery she had been looking at. This scene is accompanied by a more reassuring song that helped to calm me down and see the characters in a nicer light; sadly though as the series progressed the ending became harder to watch because seeing some of the characters brought back memories that they were no longer living and had suffered horrible deaths but look so peaceful in the end.

Now as much as it hurts me to say this simply because I really enjoyed this anime is that the character development hurt it the most. I say this because although some of the characters received great attention to who they are and how the curse is affecting them many other characters received almost no attention and were simply there and then they were dead or one of their family members were dead. I understand that shorter anime shows can feel rushed in character development or have ploy holes but at certain times it really dulled their death because I wasn’t able to form a bond with them; I couldn’t feel overly upset because I barely even knew their name. The characters that did receive a background though received a great background with depth and stories that sounded believable and only enhanced my feelings for them so that when something happened to them I was devastated and felt like I had lost a friend.

In conclusion I really enjoyed this series and would recommend this to anybody that can handle lots of blood and is looking for a great horror anime with some mystery to keep you on your toes. Please feel free to leave your thoughts on the anime or questions.

Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) Review! I have finally made it to this point

Before I get into my first ever review I just want to thank Bun E. Hill Publishing once again for recommending this anime to me.  I have tried to refrain from saying or showing any spoilers, however I must caution you that I am new to reviewing and may ACCIDENTALLY reveal something important. Please take caution when reading if you have not read the manga or seen the anime.

attack on titan pic 1

I will start my review by saying that Attack on Titan was an anime that kept me interested all the way through and kept me on the edge of my seat (WARNING: sitting on the edge of your seat for certain scenes can be hazardous to your safety).

I started off knowing that there would be blood shed but I didn’t realize just how gruesome and realistic this show was; this is in no way a con, it is most definitely a pro and made watching it even better.

I think the story flowed very well and stuck to the original story very well; every episode seemed to serve a great role to the overall story with important details would leave you confused if they were skipped over. I enjoyed how the story was balanced between fight scenes full of blood and time to hear about the characters and learn about everything else going on so that the fight scenes can mean more than just senseless killing.

Since I have just brought up the character development I should say that the main characters were beautifully developed and thought out. I got to see Armin grow more independent and confident with himself; I saw how Eren adjusted his view of the world and his purpose on what he had to do whether it be trusting his comrades or taking initiative and acting to protect/ avenge those same comrades. I also saw the other main characters develop and learn about them.

Now coming back to the violence; there was massive amounts of bloodshed in this series as would be expected from an anime like this. I enjoyed how the muscles and anatomy of the various titans for the most part looked great, some of the titans didn’t look quite right but then again they are their own “species” so who am I¬†to say how they are supposed to look.

Now for the music and the opening/closing scenes; I think that the background music was nicely chosen because the songs helped enhance the intense emotions apparent during fights, arguments, training, or self realization. There were two openings and two closings; the first opening had a great music choice that accompanied the opening scenes nicely; the closing music was equally nice and worked very well with the closing clip. The first closing clip depicts Mikasa as a child right after a life changing decision and then shows her in the present day; it then shows Eren as a child and shows him transform into the young man he is becoming.

The second opening and closing are about the same in quality and help to depict how now they are no longer kids and shows them fighting harder and stronger than before; the closing shows the main characters relaxing or arguing depending on who it is, this represents how some characters are dealing with their current situations.

Overall I think this was a great anime and since I have no experience in reviewing anything my review is what I think and not based off of how anime is suppose to flow or how a character has actually developed.
